HBC Donates Time and Resources to Build ANEW Foundation’s New Office

03/12/2015

We  are proud to be a part of the team that built our long-time partner ANEW Foundation’s new office space located in the Goodwill location on San Fernando Road in Los Angeles.  ANEW was founded in 2005 by Rose Tourje with the mission to “do what’s right with what’s left.”  The group provides sustainable solutions for the resale, recycling and repurposing of furniture, fixtures and equipment by stewarding them to charities, non-profits, public agencies and underserved communities.  Rather than allowing these items to be dumped into landfills, they become useful to groups that need this type of support most.

CBRE’s 5th Annual Charity Golf Classic Benefiting JDRF

09/28/2016

HBC recently participated in CBRE’s 5th Annual Charity Golf Classic at Strawberry Farms Golf Club, benefiting the JDRF Los Angeles Chapter. The tournament raised over $200,000 for JDRF, whose mission is to improve lives and cure type 1 diabetes. On September 28th, the same day as the tournament, JDRF and the type 1 diabetes community announced and celebrated a major historical breakthrough: the success and FDA approval of the artificial pancreas, which will bring life-changing benefits to people with Type 1 Diabetes. JDRF has invested more than $116 million in diverse artificial pancreas research projects, and we were proud to support this groundbreaking organization. Learn more about their work or make a contribution at http://www.jdrf.org/

Heart of the City 5K to Raise Funds for CHMC’s New Building

04/02/2019

There is hardly a better way to spend a beautiful Los Angeles morning than among a sea of runners and walkers with one common goal – to help provide a local, non-profit healthcare facility with the resources needed to continue serving the greater community. This was exactly the motive behind California Hospital Medical Center (CHMC)’s Heart of the City 5K, which was held on Saturday, March 30. All proceeds from the event went to expanding their services into a new, four-story building that includes a full-service trauma center and a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Howard Building Corporation is proud to have been a course sponsor with two competing Corporate Cup Teams and several individuals who walked the course in support.

Working Wardrobes Clothing Drive

02/15/2023

Throughout the month of January, HBC held a clothing drive in both the OC and LA offices to benefit Working Wardrobes, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping disadvantaged individuals obtain employment. HBC employee-owners and their families brought in gently used professional clothes to donate to the organization, which ranged from business casual attire, formal suiting, shoes, and accessories. In total, HBC donated over 650 items of clothing. With these items, Working Wardrobes will provide styling services to people facing employment barriers and, ultimately, arm these people with the skills and confidence needed to achieve the dignity of work and build lasting economic stability for themselves and their families. The recent clothing drive is just one of the many ways that HBC has partnered with Working Wardrobes. Our Talent Acquisition & Development specialist, Agnes Cimino, has been volunteering with them since November, providing career counseling, including mock interviews, job search assistance, resume writing, and styling clients for their interviews. Working Wardrobes was also one of the recipients of HBC’s 2022 Choose Your Charity campaign.  ABOUT WORKING WARDROBES Working Wardrobes was founded in 1990 with a mission to help men, women, young adults, and Veterans to achieve the “dignity of work.” By partnering with local corporations, volunteers, and organizations, Working Wardrobes is able to offer the community a wide range of programs and services including: job search resources, skill workshops, customer service training, financial needs assistance, wardrobe services and styling, and job placement. Since opening their doors, they have helped over 100,000 individuals secure employment to provide for themselves and their families. Women CAN Golf Series

08/31/2022

Golf is a huge networking opportunity in the AEC industry but, unfortunately, most women have not had the chance to golf as often as their male counterparts. Unsurprisingly, many women in the industry don’t participate in golf-related networking events due to lack of exposure to the game and low confidence in their golf skills.
