Choose Your Charity 2022

12/30/2022

Every holiday season, HBC likes to give back to charities that are important to our employee-owners and their surrounding communities. As part of this endeavor, we host an annual "Choose Your Charity" event, where HBC employee-owners nominate a charity of their choice to receive a monetary donation from HBC.

Each nomination includes the charity name, the reason why it was nominated, and how the charity impacts the community. Once all nominations are collected, our internal Employee Stock Ownership Program (ESOP) Communications Committee votes on the anonymous submissions. Typically, the top three charities with the most votes will receive a donation. However, this year, we were able to donate to every single one of the nominated charities!

Here are the recipients of our third annual “Choose Your Charity” event:

Covenant House California - meets the basic needs of youth experiencing homelessness through a nourishing meal, a shower, clean clothes, medical attention, and a safe place to sleep

Working Wardrobes - empowers and prepares disadvantaged individuals for the dignity of work. They help veterans, men, women, seniors, and young adults overcome difficult challenges and gain employment

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital - leads the way the world understands, treats, and defeats childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases

The Gentle Barn - a small animal sanctuary in Santa Clarita that rescues abused animals, rehabilitates them, and provides them with a home

Murphslife - gives back to kids and people in 3rd world countries who are less fortunate

Stand Up for Pits Foundation - saves lives and ends the abuse of Pit Bull type dogs through live events, funds, education, and advocacy. The Foundation donates to and supports educational programs and front-line rescue efforts

Children's Hospital Los Angeles – offers the Los Angeles and surrounding communities award-winning pediatric healthcare services

Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation - provides resources and advocates for breast cancer patients while also raising money for breast cancer research

I.C.A.R.E. Dog Rescue - rescues dogs from shelters at risk of being euthanized as well as abandoned, abused, and stray dogs. I.C.A.R.E. Dog Rescue rehabilitates these dogs in loving foster homes until they are adopted into permanent homes.

Project Linus - donates handmade blankets to traumatized children (for example, babies in the NICU, foster children, and children of parents who were lost in the military)

Thank you to all of the nominated charities for having such a positive, long-lasting impact on our collective communities.
