Project Description
Howard Building Corporation's involvement in the redevelopment of The Triangle retail and entertainment center in Newport Beach, California opened the door for the Tavern+Bowl project. One of the new tenants that anchored the redevelopment effort, Tavern+Bowl brings a new take on the traditional bowling alley. With a well-appointed bar area and restaurant, a gourmet menu of food, and a sophisticated digital system that displays scores and customizable options for each of the ten bowling lanes, the experience goes well beyond that of your father's bowling alley. Prior to Tavern+Bowl's arrival, the space had been completely unoccupied for 15 years. As a result, every major system electrical, structural, and mechanical required complete upgrades to meet current codes. Major ADA upgrades were also required. The existing concrete floors, however, provided the desired aesthetic and were stained and sealed. The reception desk/shoe rental desk, bar, and all point of service stations are topped in poured in place concrete counters as well. Two VIP lanes are located separately from the other eight lanes, providing a private party space, and the wall running beside the lane is finished in refurbished wood from a barn, giving the space a rustic quality. A rusted structure of steel beams hovers over the bar, furthering the rustic feeling. The impressive display of televisions throughout the space are all linked through an integrated system that also controls the lane monitors, the lighting throughout the space, and an interior and exterior paging system. The lighting package provides an impressive color display, with Philips Color Kinetics LED fixtures cycling through a series of colors. As each color changes, wall applied vinyl graphics change in appearance in conjunction with the light colors. Graphic projections from above indicate the lane numbers, and the pins are specially lit as well. Adjacent to the lanes is the full service kitchen that also includes separate food and beer storage walk-in coolers and freezers. Between the atmosphere and the menu, Tavern+Bowl has contributed greatly to the revitalization of The Triangle.
