Project Description
Howard Building Corporation teamed with Gensler to design their Downtown Los Angeles office on the 37th Floor of the 707 Wilshire building. The space reflects the same quality and attention to detail that defines HBC's reputation in the building industry.
Visual features throughout the space speak to the materials and methods often used in construction, including the custom designed wood bench seating in the lobby that incorporates acrylic encased nails and screws as a backdrop. A conical architectural feature wall surrounds the reception desk and is covered in acrylic blue shingles that refer to HBC's iconic blue. Large scale light pendants fill the lobby with light, and a bar area invites guests into the space. The conference room adjacent to the lobby is encased in floor to ceiling glass partitions with a large pivoting door finished in ebony wood. A feature wall in the space is finished with sculptural wall cladding that provides a textural backdrop for the conference room.
Beyond the lobby, a translucent, backlit ceiling hovers below pristinely white, exposed ceilings and offers light to the open workstation area. To maintain the outside views, full floor-to-ceiling glass partitions define the perimeter offices, while sliding, custom designed, ebony veneered barn doors punctuate each office doorway. Epoxy flooring and carpet define work areas and pathways in the space, and ample millwork storage closets line the interior walls of the space.
